I have no words to describe how freaking awesome this monitor is. To everyone who brought on this state of temporary insanity and convinced me to buy this thing... thank you. Thank you so much. ;_;

Now my new computer parts just need to get here so I can actually play games on this thing's default resolution.

[mood | excited]

My monitor came in today! Woooo! I only had a few minutes to open it up and take a look at it before I left for work today. It's so... so beautiful. ;_;

Now I have to wait about another 6 and a half hours until I get home so I can hook it up and play with it. It's a good thing my job doesn't require much concentration, or I wouldn't be capable of working today.

Apparently the parts I ordered off Newegg departed from Iowa today. Hopefully those'll get here tomorrow so I can get it all set up and get this thing running at max performance. I can't wait to try out my games on thing.

Wooooo!

Karma's a funny thing. I guess it decided I was too happy today about the pending monitor and computer upgrade, so it had to do something to bring me back down a notch. I got a speeding ticket on my way back to work after picking up lunch (47 in a 35 zone), and on top of that, I guess when I got my new insurance cards, I forgot to put them in my car/wallet, because the only one I had on me was out of date, which landed me a second ticket. So now I have a court date at the end of next month, and I have to bring a valid insurance card to get them drop the ticket. Fun.

Oh well, I already spent nearly $1500 today. What's a hundred more?

Heh, apparently one of my coworkers saw me get pulled over, because by the time I got back to work (5 minutes after my lunch break ended), everyone knew about it, and there was a tag taped to my door with "Slow down! And be safe. And have a nice day. :)" written on it.

The monitor went back on sale again today (thanks for pointing that out, Antiarc!), so I went ahead and bought it. I also ordered the parts to upgrade my computer with, and after looking at some more benchmarks and realizing the 6800GT probably wouldn't be quite up to the task of running new games on this monitor (and figuring that the price difference would be worth having a longer lifetime on the video card), I upped that to a 7800GT.

I... just... spent almost $1500 on computer upgrades.

*faints*

Well, it looks like I'm not getting that monitor just yet. I didn't realize the coupon code had a limited number of uses, so it ran out before the listed expiration date. Oh well. I'll have to keep an eye out in case it goes on sale again. Now that I've convinced myself to get it and got all psyched up for it, I'll snap it up as soon as I see that deal pop up again.

HOLY CRAP, AN UPDATE [Oct. 11th, 2005|10:11 pm]
Yeah, haven't updated this thing in over two months, mostly because nothing's been going on that's really worth mentioning. Work, sleep, and WoW make up pretty much my entire existence lately. I guess I should try coming up with stuff to fill this space with.

Anyway, the real reason for this entry is because I'm considering upgrading my computer, and I want opinions on the parts I'm planning on buying. I haven't spent much time looking into computer parts recently, because I hadn't planned on upgrading so suddenly, but with this HOLY CRAP AWESOME MONITOR going back on sale, I have two days to decide what I need to get if I'm going to get that monitor and accomodate its insanely high resolution for gaming.

So, here's what I've picked out:

MSI K8N Neo4-F Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4-4X ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 1GHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor

XFX Geforce 6800GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

And, of course:

Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW 24-inch Wide Aspect Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand

This will be upgrading from an Athlon XP 2800+ and Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB, and a 19" ViewSonic CRT.

So, to you people who have been keeping up with computer technology recently, how does this look? Are there other brands/models you'd reccomend over the ones I chose? I tried to find a balance of things that are fast enough to run games on this monitor with decently high graphics settings enabled, without throwing away my entire life savings on a computer upgrade.

With these parts, I'm going to be spending about $1400 at the end of the day, which is a huge amount of money to throw at something on such short notice, but I can afford it, and I may (hopefully) be able to convince my dad to buy my old parts off of me to help lessen the blow a bit (that is, if I don't chicken out and pass this deal up, but goddamn, those screenshots Antiarc posted are pretty).

The Human Equation [Jul. 11th, 2005|01:17 am]
[mood |\m/ (>_<) \m/]

I finally had the time to listen to this today (actually, enough time to listen to it twice, which I did). My initial impression: Holy shit that's fucking awesome.

I'm not sure where I'd place it in comparison to Into the Electric Castle yet. I'm still saturated in the novelty of The Human Equation, and I've listened to Into the Electric Castle about a billion times, so I'll need to give it at least a few more listens before I can give a fair comparison. I can easily say that these are absolutely my two favorite albums right now, though.

God, I fucking love Arjen.

[music |Sonata Arctica - Abandoned, Pleased, Brainwashed, Exploited]

It's been awhile since I've bought a CD, and a few days ago I decided I needed more music, since my playlist was starting to get a little stale. Being without broadband internet for the time being (God, I hope the DSL equipment arrives soon) meant downloading music was pretty much out of the question, so I hit up Amazon. The result is that my bank account is now sixty-six dollars and ninety-one cents lighter, and I am now in possession of the following:

Sonata Arctica - Winterheart's Guild
Sonata Arctica - Silence
Ayreon - The Human Equation (Limited Edition with Bonus DVD)

Thus far, I am in absolutely no way displeased with this purchase.

---

In other news, the first step in ridding ourselves of Charter is complete--we got Dish Network set up for our TV today. It's pretty neat, because our box doubles as a DVR, and it controls two TVs separately from the one box, so we have DVR on both of our TVs now.

The DSL equipment is supposed to arrive before this weekend, so hopefully that'll get here tomorrow (please God, don't make me go through another weekend without broadband ;_;), then we can call Charter and tell them to stuff it. Man, that's going to be satisfying. My mom added it up today, and figured that in the last month-ish that we've been having these problems with Charter, we've been 25 days without cable internet (with a week of uptime inside of that). That's just fucking rediculous. All I know is, if they try to bill us for any of those days we didn't have access, there'll be hell to pay.

I had an idea last night while I was playing WoW, of a way to create 3D images of the game by taking two screenshots, one slightly offset from the other, shrinking them down, and placing them side-by-side so they can be viewed in "magic eye" format. The results turned out rather well.

A small bugfix patch should not require 1.2 gigs of hard drive space to install.

*grumbles, and starts searching for files to delete*

Good lord, I have over 21 gigs of stuff in my downloads folder. I guess maybe I should go through that and clear it out.

WoW [Mar. 28th, 2005|06:04 am]
I got Aelussa up to level 30 tonight. I've been clipping right along with this character compared to how long it took me to get Erdrick (my Warrior, who I still can't help but to consider my main, even though I haven't played him in awhile) leveled up. A lot of it's likely due to knowing what I'm doing better this time around. Erdrick's currently on hiatus for an indeterminate amount of time, because my friend who I'd been playing with on Frostwolf hasn't been playing lately, and I don't want to be too far ahead of him when he decides to come back. Not that any of you have any reason to care about Erdrick anyway, since most of you don't play on Frostwolf anymore, and he never played with the Fopolis guild while he was there anyway.

[music |Ayreon - Another Time, Another Space]

I think Into The Electric Castle is the only music album I've ever listened to that actually wears me out after listening to it. Every time I listen to this album, I have to take a breather when it's over, and I usually don't listen to any more music for the rest of the day afterward. It's like... I've just listened to musical perfection, so I don't have any reason to listen to anything else, because any other music I listen to would taint the experience.

God, I love Arjen. Between this and Space Metal, he's probably my favorite music artist right now. I need to get The Human Equation, because I've heard it's even better than ITEC, which I have a hard time believing.

[music |Sonata Arctica - Gravenimage]

Damnit. I've had a Logitech MX700 mouse for a while now, and I've always been happy that I've never had the problems with it not seating correctly in the recharger that so many people have had with it. Twice now, in the last few days, I've left my mouse on the charger overnight, only to notice the next day that it hadn't been charging, and the battery was almost dead.

*sigh*

Oh well, I guess this means I finally have a reason to upgrade to the MX1000, which I've been drooling over since it came out, but I couldn't convince myself to get it since my MX700 worked fine.

General
KikassAssassin performs Open on Christmas Gifts.

KikassAssassin recieves loot:
[512 MB stick of PC3200 DDR RAM]
[Half-Life 2]
[Metroid Prime 2: Echoes]
[Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time]
[CD: Aryeon - Into the Electric Castle]
[Sack of Candy]

Word of advice to anyone who's getting loading lag in WoW (hard drive chugging that slows the game down, especially when you enter new areas, walk around big cities, or ride gryphons): Get more RAM. I used to get horrible chugging in Ironforge, and gryphon rides were literally a slideshow (I'd be lucky to see 10 separate frames on the way from Stormwind to Westfall). With my new RAM, (1024 MB total) it's virtually gone. Gryphon rides are completely smooth, and I only notice the occasional skip every now and then when I walk around an extremely highly populated area like Ironforge. It's wonderful.
